Graduated in: 2008
About: Since graduating Ben has produced and directed several follow-up shorts to his Bristol School of Animation thesis film House Guest that been screened internationally and sold for broadcast and film tours.
From 2011 onwards he has been involved with the online animation magazine Skwigly, predominantly as features writer, content producer and, as of November 2012, co-owner and Managing Director. This has proved to be a well-received means through which to channel Ben’s fondness for the cultural history of animation, via written articles, screening events, video content and the Skwigly Animation Podcast – as well as given him the hugely valuable opportunity to interview over 100 of the industry’s leading practitioners. Furthering this interest in the culture and practice of animation Ben has recently completed his first non-fiction book on auteur animation titled Independent Animation: Developing, Producing and Distributing Your Animated Films, to be published by Focal Press/CRC (Taylor & Francis) September 2016.
At present Ben continues to produce independent animated shorts alongside his commercial work, with his most recent film Klementhro doing the rounds at festivals and another in production. Recent commissioned work includes a number of long-term contracts with Slurpy Studios producing animated educational videos for Oxford Education and BBC Bitesize.
