Steven Roberts
Senior Lecturer in Animation
Steven has a PhD in Architecture and an MSc in Computer Graphics. He is a practising 3D artist with many years of experience in TV commercial and series work, and more recently film VFX, working for companies such as BBC, Framestore, The Giggle Group, Double Negative, Aardman Animations.
During the course of his career he has worked across a wide range of disciplines, including 3D modelling, rigging and animation, as well as texturing, lighting and technical direction. He created extensive creature FX work on Disney’s John Carter, where the majority of the characters were modelled and or rigged by him; additionally, he handled lighting, texturing and compositing on several sequences.
More recently, he has worked as digital effects artist on the TV mini-series Alexander’s Lost World for Sky Vision and as vehicle/environments technical director on the feature film Total Recall.
Steven has taught computer animation and the University of Teeside. Alongside his work at UWE, he lectures at the University of Gloucester. He has also provided tutorial material for publications such as 3DWorld magazine
