UWE Animation Graduation 2023
Congratulations to all of our wonderful Animation BA & MA graduates! UWE Animation staff were delighted to take part in the students’ graduation ceremony at College Green on Tuesday 25th July. It was a pleasure to see students enjoy a day of celebration after all of their hard work and we couldn’t be more proud to see where their careers take them.
Arril Johnson, a senior lecturer who attended the ceremony, had these words for the graduating class of 2023;
‘When I graduated with a BFA from Wittenberg University in the United States, they called the ceremony Commencement and commencement means beginning. This is appropriate.
Our students express an interest in the subjects we teach, learn more about the opportunities within this multifaceted profession of making animated films, learn more about the technical and aesthetic issues involved, and learn more about themselves. They learn about their growing strengths, areas of weakness which can be fortified by practise, and which aspects of the craft or related crafts excite them enough to aim their efforts and long term ambitions. They learn to both dream and plan.
The three years of being taught and, more importantly, learning, were only preparation. Now they are facing all the frustrations, anxieties, and exciting possibilities of beginning to learn even more about their chosen craft, the varied professional and human context that they will operate in, and themselves.
To me, their energy, strengths and hopes are a beautiful expression of life.’
The UWE staff team extends a hearty congratulations and wishes the best of luck to all Animation graduates, and look forward to hearing where their animation skills take them.
